My final project for digital toolbox is the pilot to a TV series called Fred and Fred’s Garage. In the making of this project I used Adobe photoshop, Adobe audition, and iMovie to create the show. The theme of the show is documenting the work that goes on in my garage. My garage is a mess, me and my father whose name is also Fred work on projects on the weekends and the progress is very slow. Coming up with the name was easy as it is named after me and my father.
For the work that went into photoshop I modeled it after series I watch on TV, specifically fast and loud garage. Their logo is the two main people standing in front of a car, the name of the show and the station it is broadcasted on. So I formatted mine similar, I used a picture of My car before I took it apart in the garage and used photoshop to put me and my dad in front of the car and I also photoshopped Discovery channel as that is a station that is knows for car content. That is how I used photoshop in the project; this is pictured in the first scene of the episode.
I also used Adobe Audition to create a typical introduction to a TV show, many car shows have wrenched clanking, cars starting, burnouts, things that happen in a garage and then they introduce the show. I simulated this by recording my own sound on my phone and transferred it to my computer. As showed below I used actual tools in my garage recorded the sound they made and put them together to open up the show. At the end to transition into the actual content of the video I had an introduction saying “Welcome back to Fred and Fred’s garage, the greatest automotive channel in the world”. I made this sound with a basic text to speech program on the internet, and I choose a British voice because I like the way they say garage.

The last step to the project was to merge all of these parts together, and for this I used iMovie. I choose iMovie over Adobe premiere because personally I find it easier to work with, and it is capable of having multiple layers and transitions it is very capable as well. In this I started with the Picture I made I Photoshop mimicking traditional car shows, and matched that image with the entrance sounds and recording of the British guy. This then had a transition to my actual content filming the content of the show my messy garage. I then used transitions I felt appropriate like swipe right, swap in between scenes to separate ideas, or swipe right to continue building on clips that show similar ideas.

Overall it is not a great show and I doubt anybody would watch it but I was able to put together a lot of the skills I have learned into one format and it was pretty cool to see it all come together. It was actually not difficult to put together and the project was fun to make, in fact I think the most time consuming part was downloading the software to make this possible. I hope my computer doesn’t crash now, because the fans were running more than they have ever in the past. I think if I make another video in the future I will have to use a more powerful desktop or something.
